Kid Friendly Haunted Attractions in CNY
Sept. 11, 2015
If you're like me (unlikely!), you're eager to share the fun of Haunted Houses, Hayrides, Trails etc. with your kids. There's something sadisticly entertaining about it, no?
You CAN have spooky-good Halloween fun, without scarring them for life. We've compiled a handful of events that bill themselves as "All Ages/Kid-Friendly".
You can see all of current the Kid-Friendly Haunted Attractions here: Syracuse, NY Kid-Friendly Haunted Houses & Hayrides.
*Only you know what's appropriate for your child, so try not to scold us if your little wuss cries at one of these. :-)

Behling Orchards Haunted House
In Mexico, NY, Behling's is a fun place, with lots of family friendly activities... Bounce houses, pony-rides, apple picking etc. What they're NOT famous for, is their haunt. I think it's well-suited for 9-11 year olds. In the past, they had a "hay-maze" haunt, that my kids loved. Now, they've added a new one they describe as: "A very dark haunted house -if you dare... (recommended for older children.)" In their words, even their scary haunt is for children. See the Scarycuse listing for Behling's here
DeWitt Parks & Rec Howling Hayride and Maze
A chainsaw echoing through the woods… Zombies rising from their graves… Werewolves howling at the moon… For just 6.50 advance sale, or $8 at the gate, tickets include the hayride, haunted house, maze, cider and a doughnut! Sounds fun to me! Visit the Scarycuse listing for the Howling Hayride & Maze

Grimsley's Gorge Haunted Walk
This is a FREE home-haunt, in Oswego, NY, open on Oct. 30th & 31st this year. One of the nice things about a home-haunt attraction is, they can often tweak the scare-level based on your preference. Grimsleys Gorge is a self guided walk through 3 large tents to protect you from the elemments, offering all the frights and sights one could want.

Hafner's Haunted House
Near the corner of Taft and Buckey Rd. in N. Syracuse, Hafner's offers a not-too-scary kid-friendly Haunted House! It's perfect for the little ones, or any pre-teen who loves Halloween, but isn't quite ready for sheer terror! Scenes are well decorated, with spooky music and lighting. Just the right amount to build scary anticipation. This was my sons 1st foray into a haunted house at around 5 years old, and though I carried him most of the way though, it was an exciting fun time for all!

Haunted Mansion at RACC's Halloween House Festival The folk's at the Rome Art's Community Center have put on their haunt for several years. I cannot personally attest to the scare-level, but a handful of Scarycuse visitors in the past have rated the haunt quite low on scares. They offer "Trick or Treat Street" for little ones aged 2-10 years, and "Casper's NOT so Haunted House" held in their carriage house. If you're in the Rome, NY area, and have little ones, this might be right up your alley. Visit the Scarycuse listing for the RACC's Halloween House Festival

Another home-haunt, Raven Haven is in Liverpool, NY and is FREE. They have lots of family friendly yard displays, and a not-too-long walk through Haunted House that is scary, but not over the top. They also have a varitable petting-zoo display of creepy crawly creatures like snakes, spiders and lizards. Raven Haven is a labor of love, from a Halloween loving family.
