Behind the Scenes, and Screams!

Sept. 07, 2015

Probably not too many Haunted Attraction visitors give much thought to the work that goes into an attraction. When you see the sheer number or months, weeks, hours and know-how that goes into it, the measly ticket price seems ridiculously fair! Read that last sentence twice.

All the things you dig in the fall, don't just happen magically the day the Fair ends!

Here's some behind the scenes pics from a handful of local Haunted Attractions, hard at work behind the scenes, to bring you to screams.

Tormented Trails

While you were at the beach, the twisted minds behind Tormented Trails were mapping out your doom in June!

Since 2010, they've been growing from a free Haunted Hayride, into a full blown 15-20 minute Haunted walk through the woods.

"Everyone that works the trail is a volunteer, we don't make a profit off of it, each cent we earn goes into next years scare!!"

Below is a shot of construction for their 2015 walk-through, and their new "Human Meat-Grinder"!

The Abandoned

The Abandoned, is a non-profit attraction to benefit the Canastota Fire Dept. This season, The Abandoned presents "Phobia".

Here are a few behind the scenes images of their 2015 build-in-progress.

Not sure if this is the early stages of "Phobia" we're seeing here, but one thing is clear... They've put in a lot of work! The Abandoned is a past winner of our "Best Non-Profit" Haunted Attraction award, and has quickly become a CNY favorite of haunt enthusiasts.

"This how our haunt family does dinner. But not until the work's done."

-Ken Polisse

Demon Acres

This image gives a glimpse into what a beautiful property Demon Acres is during the day. As soon as night falls, it's another story.

Their amazing Haunted Hayride won our Best Haunted Hayride award for last season, and their Demon's Den haunted house did not disappoint either... Which made the following post, all the more exciting:

"Spoiler alert! We doubled the size of Demon's Den to give you more twists and turns of terror. Look for new scares, characters, and nightmares!"

Props to Demon Acres for their custom prop builds. Here is a new custom prop in the works. Not sure what this will be, but it looks like a serious undertaking.

From carpentry to electrical & technical skills, the folks at Demon Acres do much more than scream at you in the dark.

Thirteenth Hour Rising

Freddy and Terri are up to no good. They're the "hauntreprenuers" behind the Thirteenth Hour Rising Haunted Hayride in Fulton.

What this scene will be is anyone's guess, but I look forward to finding out. I think!

Last year we caught up with them for an on-site interview, and one of the things that stood out immediately, was the number of structures they built from scratch.

At the time, the number was thirteen! Not sure if that's a coincidence or not, but in the middle of nowhere, they even have a creepy feel during the day. Imagine in the moonlight!

If I know what I'm talking about, I believe this years hayride will also feature a trail though the woods...

The Trail of Terror (The Original)

When the weather outside was frightful, and the snow was flying, and you were sipping cocoa in your footie pajamas...

James from the Trail of Terror was acquiring mannequins.

Now in their 26th year of fear, The Trail of Terror is ever expanding. What's in store this year, you'll have to visit to see... I wonder how many people almost crashed their cars trying to see wtf was in his pickup-bed?

Raven Haven

The home-haunters at Raven Haven, are hard at work rebuilding their well-known Haunted House after last year's tragic fire. Billing it as "Raven Haven Rises from the Ashes" (see Boo-Times story).

The haunt will have a new design, but they'll still feature their family-friendly yard displays.
